MUBI, the global distributor and curated film streaming service, has released a new film clip for Ben Sharrock's critically acclaimed British debut feature LIMBO, which will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on the new release date of 30 July 2021.
Written and directed by Ben Sharrock (Pikadero) and starring Amir El-Masry (Industry, Jack Ryan, The Night Manager), LIMBO is a wry, funny and poignant cross-cultural satire that subtly sews together the hardship and hope of the refugee experience. Set on a fictional remote Scottish island, it follows a group of new arrivals as they await the results of their asylum claims. Among them is Omar (Amir El-Masry), a young Syrian musician struggling with the guilt, regret and grief that comes with leaving his former life behind.
This deadpan comedy-drama from a bold new voice in British cinema shines a light on the hearts and lives of those at the centre of a crisis that is mostly only experienced through the headlines. In the new clip, new friends Omar and Farhad (Vikash Bhai) discuss cultural differences as they adapt to their new surroundings.
Reflecting the complexity of the movement of people across borders has been a long-held passion for Sharrock, who spent time working for an NGO in refugee camps in southern Algeria, and living in Damascus shortly before the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. There, he formed a network of friends whose personal stories inspired LIMBO.
Amir El-Masry is joined by Vikash Bhai, Ola Orebiyi, and Kwabena Ansah. Sidse Babett Knudsen (The Duke Of Burgundy, Borgen) and Kais Nashif (Tel Aviv On Fire) round out the supporting roles. LIMBO also features non-actors in supporting roles and as extras, including refugees who have made their home across Scotland and locals from the Outer Hebrides. Watch a new clip at the link above.
