The death of Bruce Brown has been announced; he passed away from natural causes. He gained worldwide fame as the director of The Endless Summer in 1966, his record of a surfing trip that spanned the entire planet; although techniques in surfing documentaries improved, nothing quite captured the breezy adventurousness of Brown and his two friends excursion in that groundbreaking work. He would go on to create more documentaries with a sporting theme, On Any Sunday in 1971 being the most celebrated, his account of motorcycling in many spots around the globe. He returned with a sequel to The Endless Summer in 1994. He can be credited with popularising surfing in a way that was unprecedented.
